Primary market

Also known as New issue market

The market in which new securities are issued directly by a company, government or special entity to raise capital, typically via an IPO or a bond issue. Proceeds go to the issuer and fund growth, refinancing or operations. It is less liquid than the secondary market because the security is trading for the first time.
