Notional

Also known as Notional value

The full face value of the exposure a position controls, as distinct from the capital actually committed. A single option contract on a $200 stock carries $20,000 of notional for a few hundred dollars of premium. Confusing notional with capital at risk is how position sizing goes wrong.
