Fixed Income Intermediate

Discount bond

A bond trading below face value, usually because its coupon is below current market rates or its credit has deteriorated. The holder collects a below-market coupon but gains as the price pulls up toward par. The worked example in Module 3 buys at 850 against a 1,000 face value.
