Commodity

A physical raw material traded as a standardised asset class — energy, metals, agricultural products. Commodity prices are driven by global supply and demand, geopolitics, weather and technology, and they diversify a portfolio because those drivers differ from equity earnings. Exposure is usually taken through futures rather than physical delivery.
